challenge 2011

At the beginning of the year Challenge 2011 seemed a long way away then suddenly only a week to go and lots to do. Also a weather forecast was not the best with strong winds and rain!

Setting off

62 walkers turned up all prepared for the worst, only to be pleasantly surprised with a dry if windy start to the event, which improved as the day went on with blue skies in the afternoon.

Our walkers pledged £5,200 for our chosen charities which will be boosted with gift aid where claimable.

A big thank you to Dorset Search and Rescue who proved invaluable providing encouragement and re-assurance with all their volunteers carrying out their duties in a professional manner.

Marshals where provided by Stella Hayward riding for the disabled. This year we were able to provide them with some high vis waistcoats kindly donated by Justin Frampton of Conyers in Blandford.

This is great!

At lunch stop all the walkers were well looked after by  marshals and volunteers from the other charities who we are supporting.

Lunch stop provided a chance to recharge the batteries and study the map for the second half of the walk.

Once our walkers arrived back at West Fleet Holiday Farm they were able to enjoy some lovely food for which we would like to thank all the staff and owners of the campsite.

Made it

Pictures  were taken on the day by Sue Morris who kindly volunteered to be our photographer. Visit our gallery to view more pictures.

Finally grateful thanks to all local businesses and volunteers who helped to make the day a great success.

I like the photo gallery, except the pics of me!!
Really enjoyed the walk again this year, and for once I managed to start and finish the day injury free.
I’ve also found an answer for preventing sore feet.
A very well organised event, as usual, and I look forward to next time.

Great pics, thanks to all who put in their time to make this another great walk. As usual it was very well organised, and the marshals were very encouraging. Hopefully next year we will have paths left around ploughed fields. Well done Roger and Nina, well done all who walked.
